Coming Together to Lift and Raise Women From Poverty

Lift&RaiseHER is a virtual fundraiser in which volunteers, supporters and others lift various household items. The idea is to lift something to help raise women and their families out of poverty. It is being held for The Greater Contribution (TGC) to strengthen its efforts to pave a path from poverty for the women of Uganda, a need that has been exacerbated by the coronavirus threat. Our goal is to raise $20,000 between July 4 and 31. Help us beat that goal!

“If you want to lift up humanity, empower women. It is the most comprehensive, pervasive, high-leverage investment you can make in human beings.”

Want to Join the Lift? Here’s How It Works.

Goal

Set your personal fundraising goal to help us lift women from poverty.
Join us as we lift to raise women in Uganda from poverty and starvation. It’s easy! Just click here, tell us what you’re going to lift and set your fundraising goal.

Lift

Lift something — anything. Barbells, pets, cooking utensils, books. It does NOT have to be heavy.
Reach out to people in your network who recognize the terrible plight of women and children in Uganda, or who will understand once you present it to them. Ask them to support you with their donations as you lift. With their help, you can reach your goal and we can, in turn, support the women and children in Uganda during these desperate times in their lives.

Share (#LiftAndRaiseHER)

Take photos and share them.
Take pictures or videos to demonstrate your lifting prowess and post them on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. You may want to email them to friends and family, too. Let your network and others know what wonderful work you are doing for The Greater Contribution.

Invite

Invite at least 3 like-minded supporters to the cause.
Now it’s someone else’s turn. Think of at least three people you know who have a passion to help others and could have fun with this project. Ask them to sign up as participants, set their own goals and post their own pictures.

Why It’s Important

In addition to the persistent poverty and food insecurity that exists in Uganda, the threat of coronavirus has shut down commerce and halted transportation between villages and cities. As a result, more than 400 borrowers have been forced to close their businesses.

This all means that our work is more important than ever before, and we are developing a fast-response action plan to assist our borrowers in reopening their businesses.

These challenges were unforeseen just a short time ago; as a result, we are supplementing our budget through efforts like Lift&RaiseHER. Your support can help make a monumental impact for families whose struggles have intensified, and we hope you can assist.

What’s My Role?

There are two ways you can help. 1)You can donate today. And 2) You can join us in the lifting.

If you receive a Lift&RaiseHER message from a staffer or volunteer for The Greater Contribution, we hope you can make a financial pledge to support their activity of lifting household items over their head. You can make that pledge here.

Or you can join the fun and be a lifter yourself – and raise money for The Greater Contribution from your own network. So if you get tagged on social media by a supporter of The Greater Contribution, have fun with it by documenting your lift on social media and tagging those you think will enjoy the camaraderie – and helping empower women. You can sign up here.

Help us reach our $20,000 goal! Your financial support in any amount helps. As a guide, $99 allows us to support two women as they struggle to purchase inventory and restart their businesses when the coronavirus shutdown in Uganda is lifted. You can donate here.
